How to use the word unscrambler

Type or paste your scrambled letters into the input box, then click Unscramble. The tool checks the browser-based dictionary and displays every word that can be made from some or all of those letters. Pressing Enter works too.

Letter frequency still matters: a result cannot use any letter more often than it appears in your input. Spaces, numbers, and punctuation are not accepted. The merged ENABLE + SOWPODS dictionary is compressed and loaded in small chunks only when a search needs them.

Free anagram solver and Scrabble word finder

Use this word finder when you need to solve an anagram, explore possible words from a letter rack, or check a difficult combination in a word game. Results are grouped from the longest words to the shortest, making high-value plays easier to spot.

How are matching words found?

Each dictionary word is reduced to a canonical signature by sorting its letters. The tool groups those signatures by word length, then checks which groups can be built from your available letters.

Words with a matching or shorter compatible signature are returned, with the longest results displayed first.

Dictionary sources and usage notes

The results come from a deduplicated merge of ENABLE, a public-domain word list, and the ISC-declared potch/sowpods 1.1.0 package. This word-game lexicon may include uncommon, historical, regional, or offensive terms. A word appearing here does not guarantee that it will be accepted by every dictionary, edition, region, tournament, or ruleset.

Enter your letters and select Unscramble. The tool returns every matching word it can build without using any letter too many times, organized from the longest words to the shortest.

  • Does the Word Unscrambler have to use every letter?

Not necessarily. Results may use some or all of your letters. Repeated letters can only be used as many times as they appear in your input.

  • Can I use this as a Scrabble word finder?

The tool can help with word-game searches, and every result includes its standard English tile score. It is not an official game dictionary, and word acceptance can vary by dictionary, edition, region, and ruleset. Board multipliers, blank tiles, and the seven-tile bingo bonus are not included.

  • Which dictionary does the Word Unscrambler use?

  • Are my searches private?

Yes. The dictionary and unscrambling logic run entirely in your browser. Your searches are never uploaded or stored.
